Festival

The Norwegian Emigration Festival
This festival has been arranged annually since the Norwegian Emigration Center was established in 1986. It focuses on the Norwegian emigration and cultural heritage, and how it has been influenced by impulses from the United States and other parts of the world. Among the highlights of the festival are two historic plays related to Norwegian emigration history: "The Sloopers" - which is a re-enactment of the 1825 sailing of "Restauration" taking the first Norwegian pioneers to New York, and "The American Heritage" focusing on the many Norwegians that came back on the popular "Stavangerfjord", also called the "Queen of the Atlantic Ocean".

"Anna" af Sand, the oldest vintage boat still in operation in Europe, actors from Rogaland Theater, the Southern Rogaland Opera Choir, pupils and teachers from Byfjord school, a veteran steamer "Gamle Rogaland", Hundvåg Big Band, local folk dancers and entertainers participate under the conductance of Torfinn Nag and Thor G. Norås.

There is also an arts and crafts market. We are in need of volunteers that will help us make the festival even better. For more information please contact Hans Storhaug or Thor G. Norås.
