Migration History Study

In collaboration with the Stavanger University College, Dept. for Humanities, a new course in migration history studies was launched in January 1999. It is an intermediate history course specializing in European migration history. Odd S. Lovoll, now retired King Olav V Professor of Scandinavian - American Studies at St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota, played a major role in accomplishing this study, which is the only of its kind in Norway. The course is supported by the County of Rogaland, the City of Stavanger and the municipalities of Tysvær and Karmøy. So far, more than 45 students have attended the course with good results. General teacher training course
In the general teacher training course at the Stavanger University College, a module on Norwegian emigration to the USA was introduced in the fall of 1999. Students have elaborated on this module in their field work at the Norwegian Emigration Center. Education programs

This year The Norwegian Emigration Center will offer educational programs on the theme of migration for pupils of most ages. These activities and programs will be tailored to meet the needs of the curriculum and the age group of the pupils. The Center offers information, guidance and advice to teachers in all types of schools and colleges to ensure the best possible use of the center «s resources to satisfy their specific needs. Teachers are encouraged to make preliminary visits to the Center to discuss forthcoming programs and to plan follow-up activities with the staff.
